For 1 boy = 230/500

For at least 1 boy = (500-40)/500

=> 460/500

For at most 2 boys = 455/500

For at least 3 boys = 55/500

Concept

The probability is the likeliness  of happening an event among all the events. The probability=number of events/number of outcomes.

Given

no. of families                no. of boys

40                                      0

230                                    1

175                                      2

55                                      3

To find

The probabilities:

  1. one boy
  2. at least one boy
  3. at most 2 boys
  4. at least 3 boys

Explanation

  1. The probabilities that the families having only one boy=230/500.
  2. The probabilities that the familes having at least one boy=460/500
  3. The probabilities that the families having at least 2 boys are =445/500
  4. The probabilities that the families having at least 3 boys =55/500
