Omicron shadow over Christmas, New Year celebrations: A day after the Centre issued fresh guidelines on Covid-19, several states have started imposing curbs in view of the threat posed by the Omicron variant.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had on Tuesday issued specific guidelines to the states in the backdrop of “initial signs of surge” in cases of Covid-19 as well as increased detection of the Omicron in different parts of the country. After Maharashtra and Karnataka, Delhi also came out with fresh curbs on Wednesday.

On Monday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had said that gatherings of more than 200 people will now require permission from the local assistant municipal commissioners.
