D = b²-4ac

Substituting values we obtain

(-4)²-4(5)(-2)

16+40 = 56

Quadratic formula x = b ± root b²-4ac/2a

-4 ± root 56 /2(5)

So we obtain two answers one by adding and another by subtracting

-4-root 56/10 and - 4+ root 56/10
