Answer:

5x-2y=10 ; x+8y=26 find the value of x and y by elemination method

first equation is 5x-2y=10

second equation is x+8y=26

first equation multiply with 4

we get 20x-8y=40

simplify equation 1 and 2

20x-8y=40

x+8y=26

----------------

21x+0=66

----------------

we get x=22/7

x=22/7 substitute in equation 1 or 2

5x-2y=10

5(22/7)-2y=10

110/7-2y=10

-2y=10-110/7 we can do LCM

-2y=70-110/7

-2y=-40/7

y=-40/7×-2

y=-40/-14

y=20/7

therefore x=22/7 and y=20/7

Answer:

x+y = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

5x - 2y = 10.-----1

x + 8y = 26-----2

Adding equation 1&2

5x - 2y = 10

x + 8y = 26

6x+6y = 36-------3

Dividing equation 3 by 6

ie. x+y = 6.
