Answer:-

SUBSTITUTION METHOD:

5x + 2y = 8 \: and \: 3x + y = 8

We need to multiply 1 by equations(1)

1(5x + 2y) = 8 \times 1 \\ 5x + 2y = 8

We need to multiply 2 by equation(2)

2(3x + y) = 8 \times 2 \\ 6x + 2y = 16

We need to subtract equation(4) and (5)

5x + 2y - 6x - 2y = 8 - 16 \\ - x = - 8 \\ \times = 8

Adding the values we have(x=8) in equation (6x+2y=11)

6(8) + 2y = 16 \\ 48 + 2y = 16 \\ 2y = 16 - 48 \\ = - 32 \\ y = \frac{ - 32}{2} = - 16
