Answer:

Average work done = 48 (LCM of 16 and 12)

Work done by A in 1 day = 48/16 = 3

Work done by B in one day = 48/12 = 4

A did the work for 2 days = 3 x 2 = 6

Work remaining is 42.

If A and B works together = 3 + 4 = 7

Time taken to work together = 42/7 = 6

Total days taken = 6 + 2 = 8 days
