And burning it is a physical change as combustion takes place while burning.

Yes because cutting of wood is a physical change as no new substances are formed but burning of wood is a chemical change as new substances (ash) is formed

In physical process no new substance is formed so cutting of log is physical process but if you burn it if forms a new substance so it is chemical process
