Answer:

So, the answer is 20 km/ hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us suppose the speed of the cyclist be ‘x’ km/hr , therefore the time taken to cover 200 km will be (200/x) hr. If he increases his speed by 5 km/hr , then the distance will be covered in (200/x+5) hr.

According to the question:

200/x -200/(x+5) =2

Taking L.C.M.

1000/x(x+5) = 2

On solving the quadratic eq , we get permissible value of x to be equal to 20 km/hr.

Answer:

Let us suppose the speed of the car be ‘v’ km/hr , therefore the time taken to cover 200 km will be (200/v) hr. If the speed increases by 5 km/hr , then the distance will be covered in (200/v+5) hr

According to the question:

200/v -200/(v+5) =2

1000/v(v+5) = 2

2v²+10v-1000=0

On solving the quadratic eq. , we get permissible value of v to be equal to 20 km/hr.
