Answer: n = 6

Step-by-step explanation: To find n, we must simplify the equation until we have n one side and a number on the other side.

To keep the equation balanced we edit both sides equally.

6(n + 5) = 3(n + 16)

As usual I will give you 2 different techniques:

Technique 1:

Get rid of the parenthesis:  6n + 30 = 3n + 48

-30:  6n = 3n + 18

divide by 3:  2n = n + 6

minus n:  n = 6

So n = 6

Technique 2:

6(n + 5) = 3(n + 16)

divide by 3:  2(n + 5) = n + 16

divide by 2:   n + 5 = n/2 + 8

-5:  n = n/2 + 3

times by 2:  2n = n + 6

-n:  n = 6

We get the same answer.

Hope this helps.
