Natural gas does not contain sulfur, hence burning of natural gas results in less pollution.

  • Methane (60-90%) is the main constituent of natural gas and contains a very small percentage of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, etc.
  • Methane is a hydrocarbon.
  • It burns completely without leaving behind any residue.
  • There is very less carbon emission compared to other petroleum-based fuels.
  • Also, it does not emit any particulate matter which is the major factor for air pollution.
  • Natural gas contributes the least (less than 25%)  to greenhouse gas emissions than all other fuels.
  • Therefore, natural gas results in less pollution and less environmental damage.
