Jessica's character is a polar opposite of that of Portia. But it must be noted, that these differences are because of the different situations the two ladies find themselves in.

Some major differences:-

1. Portia is loyal to her dead father whereas Jessica is not loyal to her living father.

2. Portia is well versed in the law whereas Jessica, though not stupid, cannot be proved to be as well versed as Portia.

3. Jessica is Jewish while Portia is not.

4. Portia follows the rules while Jessica tries to break them.

5. Portia lives in Belmont while Jessica lives in Venice.

However, it cannot be said that they dont have any similarities.

Major Similarities are:-

1. They both can be said to be the victims of the conservative and controlling mindset of respective fathers.

2. They both had to cross-dress as males though for different reasons.

3. They both are said to be very beautiful. 

4. They both didn’t like their father’s wishes.

5. They both were successful in marrying the man they loved.
