6 pencils and 4 note books together cost Rs90/- whereas 8 pencils and 3 notebooks together cost 85/- . Find the cost of one pencil and that of one notebook.​

Let the cost of pencil be x

and the cost of notebook be y

given that,

6 pencils and 4 note books together cost Rs90

therefore,6x+4y=90

similarly,according to problem

8x+3y=85

By elimination method we can obtain the results

A/Q: 6x+4y=90

8x+3y=85

multiply enq 1 with 3 and eqn 2 with 4.

3(6x+4y=90) =>. 18x+12y=270

4(8x+3y=85) => 32x+12y=340

by eliminating,
18x+12y=270
(-) 32x+12y=340

-14x = -70

x = 5

putting the value of x in eqn 1

6.5+4y=90

4y=60

y=15

So , the cost of one pencil is Rs.5 and one notebook is Rs.15
