(i) If A-B-C and I(AC)= 11, (BC)= 6.5, then I(AB) =?
(ii) If R-S-T and I(ST) = 3.7, I(RS) = 2.5, then I(RT) =?
(iii) If X - Y - Z and 1(XZ) = 377, (XY)= 77, then /(YZ) =?

Answer

i. l (AC) = 11, l (BC) = 6.5We know that

For any three-distinct collinear points P, Q and R, the point Q is said to be in between P and R if

d (P, Q) + d (Q, R) = d (P, R), or

l (PQ) + l (QR) = l (PR)

So, we have l (AB) = l (AC) – l (BC) = 11 – 6.5 = 4.5

l (AB) = 4.5

ii. l (ST) = 3.7, l (RS) = 2.5

We know that

For any three-distinct collinear points P, Q and R, the point Q is said to be in between P and R if

d (P, Q) + d (Q, R) = d (P, R), or

l (PQ) + l (QR) = l (PR)

So, l (RT) = l (ST) + l (RS) = 3.7 + 2.5 = 6.2

l (RT) = 6.2

iii.

We know that

For any three-distinct collinear points P, Q and R, the point Q is said to be in between P and R if

d (P, Q) + d (Q, R) = d (P, R), or

l (PQ) + l (QR) = l (PR)

So,

(YZ)=2/7
