Write the valence of both Calcium and Chlorine on top.. Ca = 2 and Cl = 1

Now cross multiply ..

so you will get CaCl2

hey mate, its easy to derive any compound's formula by just seeing the its valency. So here is ur answer,

  • first write the symbol of each element and their valencies respectively in below of them, i.e

                              Ca    Cl

                               2       1

  • now, u have to just write the valency of each element with the symbol of opposite element, it is just like cross-multiplying in maths, i.e

                               Ca1Cl2

          [note as I was not having the down nos. I wrote the valencies without and bolding, from this u must understand that these are written lower than the element's symbol]
