settlements are not uniformly distributed due to following reasons:
1)population density depends on terrain,
-plains are densely populated while mountains are scarcely populated
2)the soil type also plays a role in population density
- areas with fertile soil are densely populated
3) climate also plays a major role in determining population of an area
- Sahara desert with hot and dry climate is scarcely populated while tropic regions are densely populated
4) another factor is development of the area
- regions which have developed transportation and communication system are densely populated. example: Mumbai, Bombay,New york, Tokyo etc.
