Focal length of the convex mirror = +18 cm

magnification= 1/2--------  (1)

we also know, m= -v/u (for mirror)

where v is the image distance and u is the object distance from the mirror.

therefore from (1)

1/2 = -v/u

u= -2v ----------(2)

by mirror formula,

1/v+1/u= 1/f

1/v + 1/(-2v) = 1/18

2-1/2v = 1/18

1/2v = 1/18

2v = 18

v = 9

putting this in (2)

we get, u = -2v

u = -2(9)

u = -18

therefore the distance of object from the mirror is 18 cm and the negative sign indicates that the object is kept on the left hand side of the mirror.
