Explanation:

The calorific value of fuel is the amount of heat produced by the complete combustion of 1 kg of fuel.

Heat produced by 4.5 kg of fuel =180000 kJ.

Heat produced by 1 kg fuel =

4.5

180000

=40000 kJ/kg.

Hence, the calorific value of the fuel is 40,000 kJ/kg.

Given,

Amount of fuel = 60 kg

Amount of energy = 180000 kJ

To find,

The calorific value of the fuel.

Solution,

We can simply solve this numerical problem by using the following process.

Now,

60 kg fuel is capable to produce = 180000 kJ energy

1 kg fuel is capable to produce = (180000/60) kJ energy

1 kg fuel is capable to produce = 3000 kJ

(This amount of energy, which is produced by 1 kg of fuel, will be considered as the calorific value of the said fuel.)

Hence, the calorific value is 3000 kJ/kg
