640 ml of a mixture contains milk and water in ratio 6:2. How much of the water is to be added to get a new mixture containing half milk and half water ?
A) 360 ml
B) 320 ml
C) 310 ml

Let the ratio be x...
.•. 6:2 = 6x : 2x

6x + 2x = 640
8x = 640
x = 640/8 = 80

Milk = 6x = 6×80 = 480ml
Water = 2x = 2×80 = 160ml

Half water to be added = 480-160 ml
= 320ml
Half milk to be added = 640-320
= 320ml

Hence water to be added = 320ml
