In the above reaction Oxygen (O) undergoes reduction and Tin (Sn) undergoes Oxidation

  • The given reaction is SnCl₂+ Cro₅— SnCl₄ + CrO₄⁻²
  • In CrO₅ the oxidation state of Cr is +6 which does not changes as further the reaction proceeds and it changes to CrO₄⁻
  • O has 6/5 oxidation state in CrO₅ which changes to -2 in CrO₄⁻.So it undergoes reduction
  • Sn has +2 oxidation state in SnCl₂ whereas +4 oxidation state in SnCl₄.So it undergoes oxidation
