6a ^{2}  + a - 12 = 0

6a ^{2}  + (9 - 8)a - 12 = 0

6a ^{2}  + 9a - 8a - 12 = 0 \\ 3a(2a + 3)  - 4(2a + 3)  = 0\\ (2a + 3)(3a - 4) = 0 \\ a =  - 3 \div 2 \\ a = 4 \div 3

a=-3/2 or 4/3
