Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Diameter of each circle = 2 cm ,

So ,

Length of side of square = 2 + 2 = 4 cm

We know area of square = ( Side )2

So,

Area of our square = 4 2 = 16 cm2

And

Area of a circle = π r2

Radius of our circle = 1 cm

So,

Area of a circle = 227 × 12 = 227 cm2

Shaded area ( In purple ) = Area of square - 4 ( Area of a circle )

Shaded area ( In purple ) = 16 - 4 × 227

Shaded area ( In purple ) = 16 - 887

Shaded area ( In purple ) = 16 - 12.57

Shaded area ( In purple ) = 3.43 cm2 ( Ans )
