so the length is 17.3 cm for third case

given

various loads , lengths and extension from the table:

F1=0N , L1=15.2cm , Δx=0

F2=1N , L2=16.2cm , Δx=1cm

F3=2N , Δx=2.1cm

F4=3N , L4=18.6 cm , Δx=3.4cm

to find

L3

solution

  • in the above annotations following are the meanings
  • F= load put on the rubber band in N
  • L= length of the rubber band in cm
  • Δx= extension in the rubber band due to loads in cm which can be calculated by subtracting final length and initial length
  • NOTE: final length is that length which is obtained after extension while initial length is the original length
  • first case

Δx=0

final length =initial length

  • second case

Δx=1 cm

Δx=L2-L1=16.2-15.2=1cm

  • third case

Δx=2.1cm

Δx=L3-L2=L3-15.2

2.1=L3-15.2

L3=17.3 cm

so the length is 17.3 cm for third case
