Dysfunctions are unconscious, unintended and harmful. While functions are intended (manifest) or unintended (latent), and have a positive effect on society, dysfunctions are unintended or unrecognized (latent) and have a negative effect on society.

Functions and dysfunctions can have different meanings relating to different niches of contexts to which these are used in. as far as the basic concept is concerned, functions refer to basic structures that make any system operational, and dysfunction undermines the stability of any system.
In medical terms, an organ is functioning well if there are no contradictions, while dysfunctioning of an organ is a serious issue.
