The significance of cyst formation in amoeba is for protection.
Explanation:
Amoeba reproduces through multiple fission unfavorable condition. During such condition, it pulls its pseudopodia (locomotory organ) inwards and becomes circular in nature and starts to form a three-layered protective covering called as cyst.
As the cyst is formed, the nucleus of the amoeba undergoes rapid cell division mitotically and leads to formation of daughter nuclei. The daughter nuclei are surrounded by the cytoplasm layer separately and as soon as the condition changes into favorable, the cyst gets ruptured and newly formed amoebas are released.
