While measuring a length, the zero of the vernier lies just ahead of 1.8 cm mark and 4th division of vernier coincides with a main scale division. (a) Find the length. (b) If zero error of vernier callipers is - 0.02 cm, what is the correct length ? Ans. (a) 1:84 cm, (b) 1.86 cm •

Correct option is

A

2

Length of one main scale division is 1 mm.

Number of division on vernier scale =10

Main scale reading =1.8 cm

Division of vernier coinciding =4

th

L.C=

10

1

mm=0.1 mm=0.1 cm

Length of rod = main scale reading + vernier division coinciding × L.C

=1.8+4 X 0.01

=1.84 cm
