7. The height of a certain flagpole is 30 feet. Grease is applied to the pole. A monkey attempts to climb
the pole. It climbs 3 feet every second but slips down 2 ft in the next second. When will the monkey reach the
top of the flagpole?

Solution :

The monkey climbs 5 feet every second but slips 4 feet the next second.

In this way, in every 2 seconds the monkey climbs 1 feet.

But, when the monkey reaches 28 feet, he will climb 5 feet and reach the top of the pole.

Hence the total time required will be,

T = (28×2) + 1

∴ T = 57 seconds
