Nostrils

It provides air for respiration, serves the sense of smell, conditions the air by filtering, warming, and moistening it, and cleans itself of foreign debris extracted from inhalations.

Nasal Cavity

The main functions of the nasal cavity are the moderate the temperature of the inhaled air, to moisturise it, and to filter out dust and other particles. The function of the nasal cavity is to warm, moisturize, and filter air entering the body before it reaches the lungs.

Trachea

The trachea serves as passage for air, moistens and warms it while it passes into the lungs, and protects the respiratory surface from an accumulation of foreign particles. The trachea is lined with a moist mucous-membrane layer composed of cells containing small hairlike projections called cilia.

Lungs

The main function of the lungs is the process of gas exchange called respiration (or breathing). In respiration, oxygen from incoming air enters the blood, and carbon dioxide, a waste gas from the metabolism, leaves the blood. A reduced lung function  means that the ability of lungs to exchange gases is reduced.

Larynx

Larynx, also called voice box, a hollow, tubular structure connected to the top of the windpipe (trachea) air passes through the larynx on its way to the lungs. The larynx also produces vocal sounds and prevents the passage of food and other foreign particles into the lower respiratory tracts.
