Given Equations:

7x - 3y = 31 _____ i

9x - 5y = 4 _____ ii

To Find:

The value of x and y by using elimination method.

Explanation:

Multiply both the sides of eq.(i) by -5, we obtain

-35x + 15y = -155 _____ iii

Multiply both the sides of eq.(ii) by 3, we obtain

27x - 15y = 12 _____ iv

Add eq.(iii) with eq.(iv), we obtain

-8x = -143

or, x = 143/8

Now substitute the value of x in eq.(i), we obtain

7 ( 143/8 ) - 3y = 31

or, y = 251/8

Answer:

The value of x and y is 143/8 and 251/8 respectively.
