ANSWER:-

5x+4y = 4.........(1)

x+8y = 26..........(2)

Adding equation (1) & (2), we get

6x+12y= 30

=> x+2y= 5

=> 2y= 5-x

=> y = (5-x)/2

putting the value of 'y' in eq(1)

we get,

5x+4(5-x)/2= 4

=> 5x +2(5-x) = 4

=> 5x + 10-2x= 4

=> 3x = -6

=> x = -2

now put the value of x in eq (2)

we get,

(-2) + 8y = 26

=> 8y = 26+2= 28

=> y= 28/8= 7/2

so, the value of x+y= (-2)+7/2

= (-4+7)/2

= 3/2

= 1.5

hope it will help you ✌️
