Answer:

Potential difference is the property of electricity. An electric current can only flow, when it has some potential differences between two points.

Explanation:

If, we compare it with real world, then we can say that it is just like height difference between mountains and seas. Because of this the water flows from mountain to sea.

Like this only, due to potential difference, current flows from point G to point E in the given circuit.

Current flows to lower potential from higher potential.

Answer: 8V

Explanation:

First we need to find the resultant resistance of the circuit.

Formulas used :

Potential difference = Current x resistance. ( ohm's law)

For series combination of resistors :

R net = R1 + R2...

For parallel combination of resistors :

R net = [ 1/R1 + 1/R2 ...]^-1

Net resistance of CDA

= 4 + 4

= 8 ohms

Net resistance of CBA

= 4 + 4

= 8 ohms

Net resistance of CA

=[ 1/8 + 1/8]^-1

= [2/8]^-1

= 4 ohms -------------------(1)

Net resistance of AE

= 4 ohms ( since There is a single 4 ohm resistor in part AE) -------------------(2)

Similarly,

Net resistance of EFG

= 4 + 4

= 8 ohms

Net resistance of EHG

= 4 + 4

= 8 ohms

Net resistance of EG

=[ 1/8 + 1/8 ]^-1

= 4 ohms -----------(3)

Resultant resistance of the circuit

= (1) + (2) + (3)

= 4 + 4 + 4

= 12 ohms

We know that potential differences across the individual resistors of 4 ohms will add up to get 24V

Current flowing through the circuit ( I) = V / resultant resistance

= 24 / 12

= 2A

Potential difference across Point E and G = I x Net resistance of part EG.

= 2 x 4

= 8 volts
