Given : Sum of the ages of father and son is 74.

After 8 years father will be twice as old as son.

To Find : The present age (in years) of the father

Solution:

Father present age = F years

Son present age = 74 - F years

After 8 years Father age = F + 8 years

After 8 years Son age = 74 - F + 8  = 82 - F years

father will be twice as old as son.

=> F + 8  = 2(82 - F)

=> F + 8 = 164 - 2F

=> 3F  = 156

=> F = 52

Father present  age = 52 Years
