Mainly, manganese is used to make steel from iron.

Steel is an alloy made from the base metal iron along with other metals with composition viz. carbon (3.8 - 4.5%), silicon (0.4 - 1.2%), and manganese (0.6 - 1.2%). phosphorus (up to 0.2%) and sulphur (0.04%). The temperature used is 1400° to 1500°C to carry out the chemical reaction.

Thousands of types of steel are prepared and registered throughout the world depending on their composition, use, and their shapes.  such as carbon steels, bearing steels, stainless steels, etc.

It is chiefly used for building purposes, to make sewing needles, utensils, and many more. Steel is popularly used due to its low cost in manufacturing as well as in processing and its beneficial properties.
