Answer:

Let the age of ben be y

Let the age of ross be x

8 years ago ross age will be x-8

8 years ago ben age will be y-8

It is given that ross age is  4 times the ben age 8 years ago.

Therefore

x-8=4(y-8)

x-8=4y-32

x=4y-24-equation 1

After 8 years  ross age will be x+8

After 8 years  ben age will be y+8

It is given that ross age is  2 times the ben age after 8 years

Therefore

x+8=2(y+8)

x+8=2y+16

x=2y+8

By substituting the value of x of the equation1  in the above equation we get

4y-24=2y+8

4y-2y=8+24

2y=32

y=16

x=4y-24

x=4*16-24

x=64-24

x=40

Ross age is x=40
