SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The Quartile deviation for the data 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 10

EVALUATION

Here the given set of data is

1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 10

The given observations are arranged in ascending order.

Number of observations = 7

Median = 4 th observation = 5

Now First Quartile is the mid value of the observations to the left of median

The observations to the left of median 1 , 3 , 4

So First Quartile = 3

Again Third Quartile is the mid value of the observations to the right of median

The observations to the right of median 6 , 6 , 10

So Third Quartile = 6

Quartile deviation

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{Third \:  Quartile -  First  \: Quartile}{2}  }

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{6 - 3}{2}  }

\displaystyle\sf{ =  \frac{3}{2}  }

\displaystyle\sf{ =  1.5 }
