Let,

Ratio of milk = 27x
ratio of water = 7x
---------------------------------

85 = 27x + 7x

85 = 34x

85/34 = x

2.5 =x

Now,

Ratio of milk and water = (2.5×27) : (2.5×7)
                                      = 67.5 : 17.5
                                      =  675 : 175

Now,

Let y should be added, due to which the ratio become 3:1

Then,

 \frac{675}{175 + y} =  \frac{3}{1}

1× 675 = 3( 175 + y)

675 = 525 + 3y

675 - 525 = 3y

150 = 3y

150/3 = y

50= y

Then,

50 should be added to water.

i hope this will help you
