8x+5y=9

=> x = (9-5y)/8 .....(1)

3x+2y=4 .....(2)

From equation (1)and (2) , substituting the value of x we have ...

3×(9-5y)/8 +2y=4

=> 27-15y +16y = 32

=> y = 5 ...(3)

From equation (1)and (3) , substituting the value of y we have ...

x = (9-5y)/8

=> x = (9-5×5 )/8

=> x = (9-25)/8

=> x = -16/8

=> x = -2
