This was a pretty good question… I gave to my uncle and received a completely different pattern so I will give both of them:

First:

16–5=11

49–16=33

148–49=99

Here two things are obvious,

The difference is a multiple of 11 and the difference is multiplied by 3

hence we can get the next number after multiplying the last difference 99*3 and adding it and 148…

The answer will be:

148+(99*3)=148+297=455

Second:

The next pattern is this:

When the first number is multiplied by 3 and 1 is added to the number we get the next number…

5*3+1=16

16*3+1=49

49*3+1=148

148*3+1=455

Hope it helps and please tell me which one you guys liked better…*-*
