volume, so the external solution is
(1) Hypertonic
(2) Isotonic
(3) Hypotonic
(4) Either hypertonic or hypotonic please state the reason also

Water inside the cell (highest concentration) moves out of the cell (lowest concentration), causing the plant cell to shrink and the plant to wilt. The plant wilts because there is a loss of turgor pressure.

Answer:

The external solution is hypotonic

Explanation:

When the external solution is hypotonic ( i.e less solute concentration as compared to cell) as compared to the cell, water will move from the solution to the cell following the water potential gradient (from high water potential to low water potential).

Hence volume of the cell increases.

Hope this helps you ☺️
