then,

Cp of one article is 3×100/120= rs 2.5

now

cp of 8 such articles = 2.5×8 = rs 20,

sp of 8 articles is given to be 18.40

so loss% ?

= (20-18.4)×100/20

=1.6×5= 8%.

The man sells the article for 8% loss.
