9. In an electroscope a negatively charged body is touched with metal cap.
Will the position of electroscope strips change? If now another charged object
carrying equal amount of positive charge is touched with the metal cap, what will
happen to the strips? Give reason in support of your answer.

Answer:

1)The stripes diverges

2)The divergence of stripes decrease.

Explanation:

When the negatively charged body is brought in contact with disc, the strips of electroscope diverges, this shows that the charge on electroscope is negative.

Because the same charges repel each other and the strips open up(diverge).

So, if we brought the positively charged body  in contact with disc, the divergence of the strips decreases.Since opposite charges attract each other.

1. The electroscope strips position will change, and the stripes diverge.

2. The stripes’ divergence will decrease

Explanation:

  • In an electroscope, when we bring the negatively charged body to be in contact with the disc, the electroscope’s strips diverge.
  • This proves that the electroscope’s charge is negative. This is due to the reason that same charges open up, that is, diverge as they repel each other.
  • Thus, when the disc comes in contact with the positively charged body, the strips divergence decreases.
  • So, this proves that opposite charges attract each other.
