Given:

(a - 1) (b - 1)

To Find:

To check if it is factorisation of (ab - a - b +1) or (ab - a + b - 1)

Solution:

To check if (a - 1) (b - 1) is a factorisation of (ab - a - b +1) or (ab - a + b - 1)

We will simplify  (a - 1) (b - 1)

⇒ (a - 1) (b - 1) = a×(b-1) - 1×(b-1)

⇒ (a - 1) (b - 1) = (ab - a - b + 1)

Hence,  (a - 1) (b - 1) is the factorisation of (ab - a - b +1).
