Concept:

The interest rate at which someone receives their principal amount for a specific period of time is called the rate.

Given:

Pankaj bought the same number of pomegranates at the rate of Rs 40 per dozen and Rs. 30 per dozen.

Pankaj sold the pomegranates at Rs. 45 per dozen. The profit he made is Rs. 280.

Find:

The number of pomegranates he bought.

Solution:

Let assume,

Pankaj bought x dozens of pomegranates for Rs.40.

Therefore, he bought x dozens of pomegranates for Rs. 30.

So, the pomegranates he bought =x+x=2x dozens.

Total Cost price =40x+30x=70x

He sold them at the rate of Rs 45 per dozen.

So, the total selling price =45\times2x=90x

So, the profit =90x-70x=20x

Now, the total profit he earns is Rs. 280.

20x=280

x=\frac{280}{14}

x=14

So, 2x=2\times14=28

Therefore, the total number of pomegranates Pankaj bought is 28.
