Step-by-step explanation:

99x+101y=499 - given

101x+99y=501 - given

now ,

let x= 499-101y/99 .....1

let's substitute it in second equation

101(499-101y/99) + 99y =501

now multiplying 99 in the denominator to 501 in RHS .

therefore 501*99=49599

so now our second equation is 101(499-101y)=49599

now multiplying 101 in the bracket

50399-10201y=49599

taking 10201 y in RHS

50399 =49599+101y

now taking 49599 to lhs

50399-49599=101y

800=101y now deviding 800 by 101

so , y= 7.92

now you just have to substitute y's value in any one equation and get the answer . Hope it helps
