Required Answer:-

Given:

  • 99x + 101y = 699
  • 101x + 99y = 701

To find:

  • The value of x and,
  • The value of y.

Answer:

  • The value of x is 4 and,
  • The value of y is 3

Solution:

Given,

➡ 99x + 101y = 699 ....(i)

➡ 101x + 99y = 701 ....(ii)

Adding equations (i) and (ii), we get,

➡ 99x + 101y + 101x + 99y = 699 + 701

➡ 200x + 200y = 1400

➡ 200(x + y) = 1400

➡ x + y = 1400/200

➡ x + y = 7 ......(iii)

Subtracting equation (i) from (ii), we get,

➡ 101x + 99y - (99x + 101y) = 701 - 699

➡ 2x - 2y = 2

➡ 2(x - y) = 2

➡ x - y = 1 .......(iv)

Adding equations (iii) and (iv), we get,

➡ x + y + x - y = 7 + 1

➡ 2x = 8

➡ x = 4

From (iii), y = 7 - x

= 7 - 4

= 3

Hence,

The value of x = 4.

The value of y = 3.
