Question: In Fig 5.10, AC = BD, Then prove that AB = CD.

(Based on Euclids Geomentry, NCERT, Grade 9)

Answer:

Given,

AC = BD.

To prove,

AB = CD.

Proof

AC = BD (given) → 1

AC = AB + BC  →  2   (refer figure)

BD = BC + CD  →  3   (refer figure)

By substituting 3 and 2 in 1,

We can write,

AB - BC = BC - CD  (BC is common in both equations, so they are cancelled)

 ∴ AB = CD
