Here given that -

C = 15pF = 15 x 10 ^-12 F

V = 60 volt.

hence by formula ,

U = 1 / 2 × CV2 = 1 / 2 × ( 15 x 10 ^-12 × 60 x 60 )

U = 1 / 2 × ( 54000 x 10 ^-12 )

U = 1 / 2 x ( 54 x 10 ^ -9 )

U = 27 x 10 ^-9 J

Explanation:

Given A 15 pF capacitor is connected to a 60 V battery. How much electrostatic energy is stored?

  • Now the potential applied is v = 60 V
  • Also given C = 15 pF = 15 x 10^-12
  • Therefore electrostatic energy is stored in the capacitor.
  • So we have U = 1/2 CV^2
  •           So U = 1/2 x 15 x 10^-12 x 60 x 60
  • So U = 15 x 10^-12 x 1800
  • So U = 27000 x 10^-12
  • So U = 2.7 x 10^-8 J
