A 2.4 cm tall object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a convex lens of focal length 18 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 12 cm. Find the position, size and nature of the image formed, using the lens formula.(All India - 2012)

Answer:v=-36cm , height i=7.2cm and nature of image=real and inverted....

Explanation:

F=+18 cm

U=-12cm

Using lens formula:

1/f=1/v-1/u

1/18=1/v+1/12

1/18-1/12=1/v

-1/36=1/v

V=-36 cm......

Also we know that:

Height i/height o= v/u

Height i= +7.2 cm .... thus the image is real and inverted ....
