A 2500 kg car travelling at 17.6 m/s loses it brakes and collides with the rear end of the car in front of it which has a mass of 1020 kg and is travelling in the same direction at 12.5 m/s. If the speed of the front car is increased to 15.3 m/s as a result of the collision, what is the speed of the rear car after the collision?

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

2500×17.6+1020×12.5=2500v+1020×15.3

therefore v= 16.46m/s
