Answer:

The foot of ladder slides from 7m to 15 m from the wall and the magnitude if slide is 8m.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : 25m long ladder is placed against a vertical wall such that the foot of the ladder is 7m from the feet of wall. if the top of the ladder slides down by 4m.

To find : How much distance will the foot of the ladder slide?

Solution :

According to question,

It form a right angled triangle,

Where, Base=7

Hypotenuse =25

Applying Pythagoras theorem,

So, vertical height will be

P=\sqrt{(25^2-7^2)}\\P=\sqrt{625-49}\\P=\sqrt{576}\\P=24

Now vertical height reduces to 24-4 =20 as the ladder slips.

Hypotenuse is same  25 , P=20

New base is

B=\sqrt{(25^2-20^2)}\\B=\sqrt{625-400}\\B=\sqrt{225}\\B=15

So, the foot of ladder slides from 7m to 15 m from the wall and the magnitude if slide is 8m.
