The position of centre of mass is  (CM) = 8 / 5 cm.

Explanation:

We are given:

  • Mass of body A = 2 Kg
  • Mass of body B = 3 Kg
  • Distance of 2 Kg body from origin = 1 m
  • Velocity of body A = 3 m/s
  • Distance of 3 Kg body from origin = 2 m
  • Velocity of Body B = 1 m/s

To find:

Position of centre of mass = ?

Solution:

Centre of mass (CM) = M(A)V + M(B)V / M(A) + M(B)

Centre of mass (CM) = 2 x 1 + 3 x 2 / 2 + 3

Centre of mass (CM) = 2 + 6 / 5

Centre of mass (CM) = 8 / 5 cm

Thus the position of centre of mass is  (CM) = 8 / 5 cm.
